This week we have been at some of our favourite venues, starting with a perennially popular venue, Buxted Park hotel, then we used our vintage glass vases at Ockenden Manor, Cara chose lovely vintage birdcages for her reception at Fabrica which looked gorgeous and we dried some English peony petals specially for her as a surprise. I think next year we will do more dried peonies when they are in season.
Also this week Danny got us some fantastic English sweet pea’s ( as well as the peonies) while they are in season we are using as many as we can.
Then we were at Pelham house in Lewes. This time using our silver stemmed vintage vases with roses and herbs. All very seasonal and fragrant.
I met with Claire from amaryllis events for lunch and a catch up. Claire is now exclusively linked to Cisswood house for venue styling and chair covers, she also has stunning aisle runners and fabric drapes and lighting panels. Highly recommended.
Jo from elegant stationery has been down at the studio showing us some of her great new products and Caroline sent us some of her fortune chocolates which are absolutely delicious and were supposed to be given out as samples- but we ate them – as she anticipated we would- hopefully she’ll send us some more……..
( all these great suppliers are linked from the pollen directory too )
Alison who has worked freelance for us passed her floristry design course at Plumpton college with distinction which was totally fantastic as she has worked hard combining working along with studying- we’re sure she’ll have a great career. Hopefully she’ll still be available when we need her!
If you are waiting for a quote then please accept my apologies, as many of you know we share at desk at pollen base and I broke the (new!)laptop so Donal has not been able to get quotes out as quickly as normal. It’s now fixed thanks to the boys at the laptop hut who got me out of a bit of a hole.
We have responded to customer request for confetti cones as well as organza bags. We found some unique designs, some are very fashionable vintage rose patterns, we think you’ll like them .
I think that’s it for now – heading of in search of a glass of chilled wine after a busy week!

Apologies to all those customers who were online today and found that the prices were changing before their eyes!
Unfortunately the longest pollen petals sale ever has pretty much come to an end
The good news is that the prices are just at the level they were last year - good times!
Doing a quick check of our UK competitors prices using a popular item as a comparison, for a 2 litre box of burgundy petals we are still very good value
Pre order 4 weeks before your event with pollen petals £17.50
petals and roses £18
event date within 4 weeks pollen petals £18.50
sweet colours £19.99
perditas £20.99
interpetal £23.99
truly madly deeply £27.50
now this was not a scientific study but it seems pretty clear that even though one of those companys ( not pollen) claim to be ‘the cheapest you will find’ - they clearly weren’t.
so shop around and then come back and buy your petals at pollen
(prices correct at time of publishing)

This is a trail of interesting and varied gardens and artists’ houses in the village of Henfield, West Sussex.
The gardens are of all shapes and sizes. A few have wheelchair access, some will be serving home-made teas, cakes or lunches, some selling plants, and some hosting music events.
The artists’ houses will have a wide variety of art and crafts, such as ceramics, jewellery, paintings, photography, sculpture and woodwork.
New in 2009 will be a Sculpture Trail, with certain houses displaying a variety of sculptures, to celebrate the 10th anniversary and to recognise the outstanding contribution to the Festival that local artist Alison Rankin has made in that time,
Entrance to all gardens is free, but voluntary donations will be gratefully received.
Each year the organising committee decide on a local charity to support, and for 2009 we are delighted to have chosen:
The Henfield Community Minibus

A 700-tree temporary forest designed by a University of Brighton student will transform Victoria Gardens , an underused green space in Brighton ’s Valley Gardens Conservation Area, from 5-11 June.
As part of a South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) project to make ‘Places from Spaces’, student Lucy Palmer, has designed this week-long ‘new look’ to change an ordinary, everyday space into an extraordinary place for people to enjoy.
The Places from Spaces project aims to encourage new design thinking for urban public spaces. By using local universities to create temporary schemes, communities can test creative schemes for transforming public spaces to ask ‘what if’ – what might be possible to reinvigorate them. It also gives architectural and engineering students real hands-on experience to build their employability potential, as well as bringing the fresh innovative thinking of academia to improve community places.
The ‘forest’ of Valley Gardens will create new nature trails and environments for visitors. Lucy explains: “My aim is to get the public back into the space and using it differently. I hope people will enjoy seeing the park full of greenery in this very urban environment. I’ve decided to use six species of tree, with different heights and densities to create an interesting landscape across the site.”
After the temporary transformation, the trees will be planted at East Brighton Park , where they will be enjoyed by the local community for years to come. Lucy’s fellow architectural students will also display their designs for possible permanent transformations of Valley Gardens and will be asking people for their views and comments on how to improve the area. The project in June 2009 will coincide with the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts and Architecture Burt, Brill & Cardens Graduate Show.
Project leader, Ian McKay, visiting lecturer at the University of Brighton and partner in BBM Sustainable Design Ltd, says: “This is an experiment to test new ideas to help regenerate neighbourhoods and improve townscapes as well as create a sense of place and build community. We’ve been very grateful to officers and members of Brighton & Hove City Council who have judged our students’ concepts and advised on typical real-world constraints in applying design.”
The ‘Places from Spaces’ project is also taking place in Southampton and Portsmouth .

David proposed with our petals, as you can see, a most romantic gesture! They’re getting married on the 25th July 09, so the petals worked. Congratulations and thanks for sending us the picture
